Preparing for Divorce

 By: Alicia M. Bianchi

Preparing for filing or responding to a divorce complaint can feel like an overwhelming process.  Here is a checklist of tasks to help navigate the process:

1. Create a list of questions to ask when you consult an attorney about the divorce process, custody, property division, child and spousal support.

2. Gather your account statements for all financial-related accounts: bank statements, credit cards, brokerage/investment accounts, retirement plans and accounts, mortgage statements, etc.

3. Gather all documentation relating to any business in which you or your spouse may have an interest.

4. Take photographs of your personal property and create an inventory. Document expensive and/or sentimental items.
