Wayne County Friend of the Court: Interception of CARES Act Funds

The Wayne County Friend of the Court issued a press release on April 15, 2020 regarding the interception of stimulus check funds when a payer of support has an arrearage because the stimulus check is treated as a tax offset.

Payers of child support will have their stimulus check intercepted if they owe:

$150 or more if their child is receiving cash assistance or is in foster care, or
$500 or more if their child is receiving Medicaid only or is receiving no state assistance.


For a payer who files taxes jointly with a spouse - the Friend of the Court will place a hold for 6 months to allow for injured spouse paperwork to process.
