GM-UAW free divorces soon to be a thing of the past

In the past, the UAW Legal Services Plan offered free legal representation to its members, including non-contested divorces, as well as bankruptcy and estate planning.  However, as reported in Saturday's Detroit Free Press, the new labor deal will end this perk (along with other benefits) in 2014, one that was cherished by GM employees over the years.  Many see this as the end of an era, however the UAW is simply no longer in a position to offer these special benefits as they once were when GM was one of the most successful and innovative companies in America.  As explained in the article, GM was the Apple or Google of its day and offered such attractive benefits to attract the best employees.  Now, it's about saving money.
